Podcast - Episode 114: Comic Cover Clichés

Crisis#7-00.jpg

Apologies for the very visual topic this week, but I will include some helpful images in the blog post.

Before I post some covers, here is a link to Dave's Letterbox page, where you can follow along with the spooooooooky movies he's been watching this October.

Spooooooooooky movies like this one, 1990's The Ambulance, which features the Marvel offices and some familiar Marvel faces (faces like Stan Lee, not like Bruce Banner). Dave has helpfully cut to one of the Marvel scenes here.

Oof. Eric Roberts' hair, huh?

Ok, let's look at some covers. Here you will see, in order, examples of "Death of Whoever"; "Floating Heads"; "Charging at Each Other"; "Scales of Justice" or "Big Guy Little Guys"; and "Just a Bunch of Guys".

Thanks for listening!!!

Podcast - Episode 113: Blade Runner 2049

10BLADERUNNER4-master675.jpg

First of all, I have to explain something:

In my headphones, this episode sounded fantastic as we were recording it. I get home, and I listen to it, and I realize that the entire time the recording was being done from the laptop microphone, not our hand-held mics that run through the mixing board. So the whole episode sounds like shit. It's listenable, but disappointing.

And on that note, let's talk about a movie with impeccable sound design and editing!

We both really liked Blade Runner 2049 a lot. Warning that this episode--or at least the last half hour or so of it--is full of spoilers.

Of course, the Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer did indeed drop since we recorded this. And, of course, the Infinity War one did not.

I feel like I was supposed to link to something in this blog post but I've forgotten what it is.

Here's a picture of Chris Hemsworth eating his own shirt:

Podcast - Episode 112: Comic Shop Etiquette (with guest Denzel Noylander)

DLQdYbfVYAApa4o.jpg

This week we are joined by our friend and former/sometimes current Strange Adventures employee, Denzel Noylander to talk about good and bad behaviour by both comic shop customer, and comic shop staff. We get a lot off our chests.

You can listen to Denzel's podcast, Quarter Life, here. If you are in your twenties, it will be inspirational and helpful. If you are in your, say, late 30s like myself, it will make you cry and wish for a time machine.

Thanks for listening! I have nothing more to say this week! Rate us on iTunes!

Podcast - Episode 111: Favourite Single Issues (Part 1)

Hero-Envy-FantasticFour05.jpg

This week we tasked ourselves with each choosing five of our favourite single comic book issues. It was not easy, but between us we have a pretty solid list of ten comics. Because it was so challenging to get it down to so few, we are probably going to make this a recurring episode theme. Maybe monthly? I dunno.

Here are the lists, so you can head to your local shop and hunt them down:

DAVE:

Avengers #154
GI Joe #21
Doom Patrol #19
Tom Strong #1
Eightball #22

Rachelle:

Jonah Hex #50
Captain America (and Bucky) #620
All-Star Superman #5
Wolverine Weapon X #11
Batman Legends of the Dark Knight #125

And here's that very important Jeremy Renner Instagram post:

Good stuff.

Alright, we will see you next week! Thanks for listening!

Podcast - Episode 110: Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt by J.M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck

banner - kravens last hunt.jpg

The final week of our Summer Book Club (and the final week of summer! Sob!) and we are talking about the classic Spider-Man story, Kraven's Last Hunt.

A Winter Soldier (and Hawkeye) comic was announced this week! An actual Winter Solider (and Hawkeye) comic!

Tales-of-Suspense-100.jpg

Ugly pointless movie mask? "Red Ledger"? Hawkeye? It definitely looks like they are appealing to the movie fans, right? Anyway, I'm excited. And I love the little corner box. I know we were making fun of Marvel's announcement about the return of corner boxes months ago, but looking at this cover now, I am pretty delighted.

Let's look at how relentlessly sexy Kraven's Last Hunt is.

Naked pouncing sexy:

Peek-a-boo abs wallet sexy:

Soul-searching mattress-gripping underwear sexy:

Horny after digging your way out of your own grave sexy:

Casually undressing in front of your enemy sexy:

Casually "dressing" in front of your enemy sexy:

Elephant humping sexy:

Intimate chin-tipping sexy:

Unnecessarily hot police evidence photos sexy:

And, just for fun, here's Spidey straight dumping Kraven off of an elephant:

That has to be one of the best panels of all time.

See you next week for some of our favourite single issues! Thanks for listening!

Podcast - Episode 109: Young Avengers (Marvel) by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung

banner - young avengers.jpg

The 2017 Living Between Wednesdays Summer Book Club is nearly done! We'll be ending it next week with Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt. But first: it's Young Avengers by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung!

I seriously can't believe how old these comics are. 2005?! Seriously?! Steve Rogers still thought Bucky was dead! He didn't know how much worse the truth is!

Obviously between this recording and the day it was posted, Disney announced that J.J. Abrams will indeed be directing Episode IX of Star Wars. But maybe a weekly podcast isn't your most reliable source for up-to-date entertainment news.

If you want to read the "article" about how "Leonardo DiCaprio" "told" Stan Lee that he "wants" to play him in a movie, it's here.

And if you want to see some adorable Pennywise illustrations by J.Bone, here you go!

And if you want to see a picture of Sebastian Stan in VERY tight pants at TIFF last week, here you go:

He's gonna need help taking those off, I think...

See you next week for Kraven's Last Hunt!
